- Attend recruiting interview training
- Instruct new GTO hires to sit with each manager, team
leader and director for half hour intro meeting
- To get understanding of each department within GTO
- To understand touch points of new hire’s job & who is
an expert in what
- GTO has two development tracks
- Leadership Track
- Transportation Expertise Track
- Understand your departments vision, tactics and
expectations
- Over communicate everything (Good and Bad news)
- Leadership Team Meetings
- DL-SLC Transportation Team
- Agree on team norms (i.e. intra team communication,
vacation coverage, etc.)
- Identify constraints on number of people needed at work
every day
- Share info from leadership team with your team often
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are updated at
least once a year
- System knowledge:
- TMS
- Pathfinder – Consumer
- CoAct – Professional
- Focus – Professional queries
- QMF/Diamond – Consumer queries
- Impromptu

- Perform formal mid year reviews
- Collect data all year long
- Provide feedback timely
- Poor feedback – Keep it private, keep it positive

- Celebrate accomplishment
- Constructive Conflict is good
- Opens issue of importance, resulting in clarification
- Serves as a release for pent up emotion
- Treat people how you would like to be treated
- Take notes about development but do not deliver
development in piecemail notes… make it comprehensive, verbal and personal
- Collaboration is different than cooperation…
- Work together, not side by side
- Be proactive, not reactive
- Influence people rather than direct people
- Do’s and Don’ts in interviewing
- Understanding of SLC, PSGA & HCS structures
