The UnHR Guide to GTO Team Leadership 2003

 

  1. Fill out Applicant Flow Log for all people you formally interview for a position.  This is a legal obligation.  Forward to HR (Dave Martz) when complete.
  2. Attend recruiting interview training
  3. Instruct new GTO hires to sit with each manager, team leader and director for half hour intro meeting
    1. To get understanding of each department within GTO
    2. To understand touch points of new hire’s job & who is an expert in what
  4. GTO has two development tracks
    1. Leadership Track
    2. Transportation Expertise Track
  5. Understand your departments vision, tactics and expectations
  6. Over communicate everything (Good and Bad news) 
    1. Leadership Team Meetings
    2. DL-SLC Transportation Team
  7. Agree on team norms (i.e. intra team communication, vacation coverage, etc.)
  8. Identify constraints on number of people needed at work every day
  9. Share info from leadership team with your team often
  10. Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are updated at least once a year
  11. System knowledge:
    1. TMS
    2. Pathfinder – Consumer
    3. CoAct – Professional
    4. Focus – Professional queries
    5. QMF/Diamond – Consumer queries
    6. Impromptu
    7.  
  12. Perform formal mid year reviews
    1. Collect data all year long
  13. Provide feedback timely
    1. Poor feedback – Keep it private, keep it positive
    2. Criteria for reinforcement:  Sincere, Specific, Immediate, Personal
    3. Celebrate accomplishment
  14. Constructive Conflict is good
    1. Opens issue of importance, resulting in clarification
    2. Serves as a release for pent up emotion
  15. Treat people how you would like to be treated
  16. Take notes about development but do not deliver development in piecemail notes… make it comprehensive, verbal and personal
  17. Collaboration is different than cooperation…
    1. Work together, not side by side
    2. Be proactive, not reactive
    3. Influence people rather than direct people
