David - A great king of Israelites in the Old
Testament. David was a shepherd in his boyhood. As a youth, he
asked for King Saul's permission to fight Goliath, the giant Philistine
warrior whom all the other Israelites were afraid to face. Despite his
small size, David managed to kill Goliath by hitting him in the forehead
with a stone flung from a sling. King Saul then gave David command of
his army, but he grew jealous of him and tried to kill him; David spend many
years fleeing from Saul. After Saul's death, David was made king of
the Israelites and served nobly, despite occasional lapses, such as an
affair with Bathsherba; he had Bathsherba's husband killed so that he could
marry her. Many of the Psalms are attributed to David, who was famed
as a harpist. His descendants, the House of David, included Solomon
and the subsequent kings of Israel and Judah; according to the Gospels,
Jesus was descended from David. |

FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY - The three great virtues
that the NEW TESTAMENT calls for in Christians. Charity is often
called love. According to the Apostle Paul, "Now abideth faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." |

The Age of Arthritis By 2020, scientists
expect some 40 million Americans will suffer from osteoarthritis.
Cartilage is important but so is everything that surrounds it -- muscles,
bones, tendons and ligaments.
water is squeezed out of the cartilage into the space between the bones.
Once the pressure is released, the water flows back into the cartilage,
carrying with it nutrients that were picked up from the synovial fluid,
which fills the joint. This constant fluid exchange is critical to
maintaining healthy, pliable cartilage and explains why joint-moving
exercises, like walking, help delay the progress of osteoarthritis.
Anything that puts extra stress on the joints will wear out the cartilage
much faster.
Bones are actually quite active tissues, constantly building and
rebuilding themselves from the inside out.
Women with strong, healthy bones -- the kind that are least susceptible
to the brittleness of osteoporosis -- are at greater risk of developing
osteoarthritis.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Walking is one of the best ways to keep joints
from seizing up. Low impact aerobics: any exercise that doesn't
put pounding pressure on the joints can help build up muscle and keep
ligaments and tendons flexible enough to give the joints the support they
need. |

It does not envy, it does

Love does not delight in

Prevention is better than cure, they say. It's all well and good curing a
hangover, but wouldn't it be better not to have it in the first place?
Steps
- Avoid alcohol. Of course, you probably wouldn't be reading this if
you had decided to avoid it completely. Just realize that excessive
drinking of alcohol is what causes most hangovers. The next steps assume
that you are planning on a night of drinking.
- Eat a good dinner before you go out. If you can stomach it, drink
some milk or olive oil. The food will absorb some of the alcohol you are
about to drink, and the milk or olive oil will line your stomach,
creating a protective layer.
- Choose clear alcohol like vodka, white wine, and light rum instead
of red wine, whisky, brandy, and sherry. Similarly the dark beers have
more consequence the morning after.
- Continue eating as you drink. Fats and carbs will put a brake on
alcohol absorption, while eating sugars will replace the sugar stores
that the booze removes from your liver.
- Drink a glass of water after every alcoholic drink. Alcohol
dehydrates your body--this causes the headaches and other aches you feel
during a hangover. One glass of water in between every glass of alcohol
is a good principle.
- Know your limits. Avoid getting into buying rounds among your
friends, as this will just encourage you to drink more. Instead, just
buy your own drinks at your own pace, or agree to a certain budget with
your companions.
- Drink another glass or two of water when you return home, and, if
possible, have something else to eat.
- Take a multivitamin or liver salts before bed to replace the
vitamins and minerals lost as a result of drinking alcohol. If you ate a
good meal before going out, this step may be unnecessary. But better
safe than sorry.
Tips
 | While you shouldn't mix types of alcohol, If you do always drink the
hardest type at the start of the night, and the weakest at the end.
Remember this rhyme to help: "Beer before liquor, never been sicker.
Liquor before beer, you're in the clear." |
 | In terms of amount of alcohol consumed, 12 oz of beer = 5 oz of wine
= 1.5 oz of spirits. Don't think you're drinking less because you're
drinking white wine instead of Jack Daniels and Coke. |
 | Cheese and nuts are good foods to take while drinking because the
high fat content slows the absorption of alcohol. |
 | Avoid smoking. Smoking constricts your lungs and decreases the
oxygen flow to your blood stream. Less oxygen means more hangover. |
 | Vitamin B helps replace the nutrients lost while drinking. A good
source of vitiman B is brewer's yeast which is in homebrewed beer and
bottled conditioned beers, therefore drinking these might give you less
of a hangover. |
Warnings
 | Just because you've taken preventative steps against hangovers, that
doesn't mean you won't get drunk. Always drink responsibly. |
 | Always read the label on vitamins or any other drugs, especially the
health warnings, to ensure that there will be no adverse side effects
when mixed with alcohol. |
 | Never take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for a hangover; it can cause
severe liver damage when combined with alcohol because Tylenol alone
taxes the liver considerably. The resulting liver damage is permanent
and cumulative. |

1. What proportion of the body's glucose is
consumed by the brain?B.
5 percent is not correct.
D. Your brain is a hungry organ: Even though it accounts for only about 2.5
percent of body weight, it requires about 25 percent of your glucose intake,
and roughly the same amount of your oxygen intake.2.
How much of your brain is made up of water?Correct
D. Water is the primary ingredient of the human body, and your gray matter
is no exception. About 78 percent of your brain consists of water.3.
How many neurons does a baby's brain contain?Correct
C. Humans are born with virtually all the 100 billion neurons they'll ever
have, and the brain of a 7-year-old weighs 90 percent of the adult brain.
The difference lies in the quality of the 100 trillion connections between
synapses.4.
How quickly can the human brain process information?B.
200 million bits per second is not correct.
D. Estimates of the brain's processing power have cited all of the listed
numbers, depending on the application: Conscious language processing has
been pegged at around 100 bps, image processing at 200 million bps, and raw
calculating power at as much as 1 octillion bps (that's a 1 followed by 27
zeroes). |
